I agree about everyone having different ideas of what direct/gentle meant - I saw that as well.
I think your idea of how to use the numbers is clearer than the version we just used. On the other hand, it would make matching more difficult. I matched for, hm, harshness last, hoping that was something that concrit-givers could be most flexible about as long as they knew what their recipient wanted. But it actually seems quite difficult to me to only give negative or only positive feedback on a work.

On concrit and replying to concrit and feedback on concrit, maybe everyone should end theirs with if they're okay discussing further about the story or if they're okay getting feedback on their feedback, or include that in their signup post or such. - True, it does help if you can manage your expectations going in about whether someone will reply to you or not. I wonder if people would be reluctant to state baldly "I'm not going to reply"...
